Live From Daryl's HousePosted by: Brian Stephens on Jun 17, 2008 |

When I started telling people, years ago, that an artist's web site would soon become their own branded TV station, their own branded radio station, and so many other things, most folks looked at me like I had two heads. As I have been slowly pulling together the same things for my own site, you'd be surprised at the response I have gotten (even from people who know me very well). I'm not going to say that some people have been negative, but let's just say that many folks don't get it.
But, it IS the way that things are heading and here is another great example of what I have been talking about for so long. Swing over to http://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/index.php?page=ep3 to check out Daryl Hall's new web show. It's a very simple premise. Folks come over to Daryl's house, they play music, and all the world is entertained as a result. I picked this particular episode to show you because many of my favorite Hall & Oates songs are included, but the newest episode with Nick Lowe (Episode 8) introduced me to music I had never before been aware of.
This stuff will probably never see the light of day on 'real' TV and that's fine. I'll just sit here in front of my computer and enjoy it anyway. I think that so many people should take a page out of this book and put it to good use. The grainy, low-quality YouTube clips filmed on a HandyCam have gotten people used to artist-centric video content but I think offerings like Live From Daryl's House are going to usher in the next era of broadcast quality TV programming, served up directly from the artist's own domain, and experienced by the fan directly. No middle man.
Disintermediation is here in our industry and I am all the more happy for it.
